Rember that towel?
I wanted to show you another couple of pictures of the towel I got at Target awhile back. The one I said that everyone probably already had. Yeah that one. I decided to update my limited kitchen counter space. I put the towel under a couple of jars with french words I got a rummage sales a few years a go. I usually keep candy in them. I really like how it looks. Haven't learned how to link back to a past post so bar with me.

Time For A Change?
I got this metal/wood chandalier for $1.00 at a yard sale. It was not fit for rewiring so we removed the lamp part and leveled it out so a candle could sit on top. I spray painted it a shade of turqoise. The "crystal" prisms are plastic, way-after-Christmas sale for .27 cents! It's tucked in the corner on my side of the bed. I still enjoy looking at it but I'm feeling it's time to tone down the color and do a shade of white or creme. I want it to go with whatever bedding I'm using at the time or if I want to utilize it at holiday time. I'm open to ideas! Feel free to leave a comment! Please be gentle, remember I'm new to this blogging thing!

Paris in the Bathroom
I've never been to Paris but have always felt drawn to anything French. (Except for the rooster motif; long-story, another post, childhood trauma.) I haven't yet decided on a paint color for the bathroom so please ignore that lack of detail.
The shelf contains items that make me think of Paris in the past.
The lampshade came from Walmart (!) and the lamp was a yard sale buy at $1.00. The little manneqin I decopaused using pages from a vintage children's poem book. Her title is "The Unbending Doll." The mirror is a vintage glass mirror framed in weathered wood with glass knob. I hang my favorite necklaces from hooks above it.
An after-Christmas light bulb went on in my head and I decided to use these great dollar store stocking holders sprayed antique white, to hang my favorite bracelets from. The small but high up window ledge displays my treasured pink cast-iron cherub/fish pedestal dish. The black feather boa hanging from the wire handbag was cut from a child's dance costume I bought at a yard sale for .50 cents. I like getting ready each morning around pretty and relaxing things. I also like easy access to make-up, perfume, and jewelry. Now I just need to make a decision about a paint color. So many choices!

Winter Style
I wasn't sure what to post today but I was playing around with the look of my dress form I keep in my living room. She was a steal at $15 at a large flea market near Buffalo, NY. Wonderful place with a mix of true junk treasures and vintage items.
Anyway, at the same flea market I came across this vintage winter cape. My not-top-of-the-line camera just does not' do it justice. It's velvet and actually more a shade of dark turquoise. I have no idea what the fur collar is but it's just a perfect shade of grey for the cape. No idea how old it is but I'm guessing probably 1900-1920's. I paid $4.00 for it! These are the finds that truly make me happy: Unknown stories of the previous owner(s), texture, color, and that vintage/worn look. I know that most of you have the same feelings about treasures each of us has. What are some of your favorite treasures?

Winter Candle light
I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend. We've been busy here arranging furniture and I've been changing things up a bit. Once I'm done I post some pics as an introduction to my style.
I'm sure you've already seen these from Target but I just decided to do something different to the kitchen table. I can't remember how much the towel was but I believe it was under $5.00. The candle is Yankee Candle's Christimas Rose scent. This was a Christmas gift from my daughter who doesn't realize it yet, but she does have similiar tastes to mine.
So simple but so warm for a winter evening.

Diamond in the ruff
At the end of last summer we were on our way to Wal-Mart the same route we always use. As we came upon a fruit stand that was having a "box" yard sale. From the split second looks of it, I didn't see much of interest but something pulled at me. All of a sudden I went right instead of left and there we were.
As I was looking in the boxes I found a cute frame for 50 cents. Then before me was the glint of crystal. I picked this up and waited for the usual out of my budget price range. It said $15.00!
When the young woman cashed me out she said "$6.50." I said (after recovering my ability to speak), "Are you sure?" She replied, "Yes, I'm sure, I just wanta get rid of this stuff before fall."
The ulitmate acknowledgement that I have found a gift from heaven is my boyfriend's rolling eyes as he pops the trunk! All I did to it was clean it and secure some of the crystals. Later, I plan to convert it to updated electrical wiring.

What's in a Name!?
I guess I should explain the name for the blog: "Ruffled French Bloomers". I love french and vintage style decorating. On one wall of my bedroom I have a wood peg rack that makes me smile each time I look at it. Though the ruffles are not true bloomers, they along with a simple-worded star, "Dream", remind me that I can still do just that. This blog is my expression of those dreams. Who knows where it wil lead?

Champagne buckets are beautiful!
I had always wanted a champagne bucket but didn't see how my budget could afford it. Then I went to an annual sale done for the Ronald McDonald house in Rochester, NY. This is a huge, I mean HUGE sale with no admission fee. It's a flea marketer's dream! Anyway, I had almost gone over my budet when I spotted this in the antiques section for $23.00! It is one impulse-buy I do not regret!
How pretty and shabby chic the roses are and the twinkling lights in the background!

Just had to share this
I was going through my pics and found that one of our eight-year-old dachshcund on Christmas morning. I tell people we should have name him Cary Grant because Franky is suave but comical as well. Here I'll again mention my love of slip-covered furniture: black/tan hair on a white background. He's also a burrower so it's a losing battle of trying to put pretty throws to protect furniture because he can burrow through any, and I mean, any fabrics, including upholstery.
I hope you agree: Franky is so "Cary Grant" with the black and white shabby decor. Please ignore the paint can. It was the one thing I forgot to put away.

Post holiday vignette
I spent most of the weekend putting Christmas decorations away. The house seems bare now, but that will fade in a few days. No more twinkling lights and fake snow, oh well. Spring is just around the corner. So here's a soothing vignette for a cozy Sunday night. I just love mercury glass and the feeling of old and chic at the same time!
